The CatchingART Contemporary Ballet Theatre “company experience” at Pro Arte Centre provides priceless professional learning opportunities and the development of resume performances, confidence and proficiency though unique performance opportunities, company classes with professional guest teachers and exposure to working with various choreographers and master teachers.
Pro Arte Centre is an international training centre for promising young students wanting to enter the professional world of dance. The Centre offers world-class faculty and a fully-accredited academic program leading to graduation through the British Columbia Ministry of Education. Students reach their goals guided by mentors who support and encourage excellence in both artistry and technical ability.
This past year CatchingART performed with The Lions Gate Sinfonia, The Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Pandora’s Vox, The Plastic Acid Orchestra, Cordei Duo and Yarilo Music. It is a rare and privileged experience for young dancers to have so many opportunities to perform with live musicians. CatchingART is also very involved with outreach community performances. They often collaborate with Education without Borders(EwB) to fundraise to provide dance training and scholarship opportunities in Gugulethu South Africa for marginalized children as well as performances for many other charitable events.
Guest teachers/choreographers this last year included Vincent Hantam (Scotland), Danielle Clifford (Vancouver), Beverley Bagg (Alberta Ballet), Candice Michelle-Franklin (New York), Andrea Downie (Toronto), Clare Guss-West (Switzerland), Andrea Pena (Montreal), Jill Henis (Calgary) and Desiree Dunbar (Vancouver).
Company artists receive a partial training scholarship (funded by the Platform Society) to complete their advanced training level. Artists must be between ages 16 – 20 and have an Advanced 2 level RAD or ISTD or equivalent level technical capability with dual proficiency in both classical and contemporary dance.
Alumni from this program have moved on to dance with Alberta Ballet, Ballet BC, Ballet Jorgen, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Theatre UK, Rambert School UK, Rudra Bejart School Switzerland, and Juilliard to name but a few.
We are truly honored and blessed to be part of the development and nurturing of these exciting young artists of tomorrow.
